We at the OMRON Group engage in activities that contribute to the environment at every operating site. These activities include collaboration with local communities and the preservation of ecosystems.

Activity Highlights

Matsusaka Plant: Cafeteria food waste reduction campaign

The Matsusaka Plant conducts environmentally friendly initiatives in support of coexistence with the local community.
One such initiative addresses food waste. Since the completion of the new building in 2020, the entire site has participated in a national campaign sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries to reduce food waste.
At the on-site cafeteria used by approximately 160 employees every day, it has started a number of initiatives by analyzing the projected number of meals, food waste rate, and the amount of garbage. For example, the cafeteria menu is now available for pre-order to plan the number of meals prepared. This change has resulted in a 1.1% reduction in the waste rate of staple foods.
After analyzing discarded food, the site focused on leftover steamed rice from the cafeteria and began selling mini-sized portions, which not only reduced food waste, but also improved employee satisfaction.
The Matsusaka Plant will keep working to contribute to realize sustainable society by reducing food waste and raising employee satisfaction at the same time.

Kusatsu Office: Food recycling with the local community

The Kusatsu Office converts vegetable scraps and other food waste from the employee cafeteria into compost, which is provided to a nearby agricultural high school as fertilizer.
The school uses the fertilizer to grow vegetables, which are then prepared and served back at the cafeteria.
In this way, the Office encourages food recycling and local production for local consumption.
This program was featured in the BS Asahi TV series on the SDGs.

Malaysia Plant: Greening activities using food scraps

Aiming to create a food cycle based on recycling, the Malaysia Plant began making organic fertilizer using food scraps from the employee cafeteria mixed with brown sugar.
This organic fertilizer is used in the on-site vegetable garden, and harvested vegetables are sold to the employee cafeteria, with the proceeds used to purchase seeds for new vegetables to be grown in the garden. The site shares the information on this program within facility to foster environmental awareness among employees.

Dalian Plant: Weeding activities to beautify the surrounding area

The Dalian Plant in China got rid of weeds around the site to foster corporate culture, beautify the area around the site, and prevent fires.
A total of 125 employees from five departments, including the site manager and the manager of the safety and risk management department, participated in the event, clearing away approximately 400 bags of weeds in a two-hour period.
The event helped employees understand the OMRON Principles, raise environmental awareness, and deepen ties with other employees.
