Goal

Goal

Environmental contribution*1 > CO2 emissions from production sites

  • *1Environmental contribution: Volume of CO2 emissions reduction contributed by society's use of the OMRON Group's energy generation and energy saving products and services.

Our Stance

The OMRON Group strives to offer products and services beneficial to the global society. The aim is to make the reduction in environmental impact through its products and services greater than the environmental burden caused by its production activities. In this way, the Group will work to expand the company's environmental contribution in order to help lessen environmental impact in a more efficient manner.

FY2022 Overview

In fiscal 2022, the OMRON Group achieved an environmental contribution amounting to 938 thousand tons of CO2, far greater than the total CO2 emissions from the OMRON Group production sites (87 thousand tons of CO2) for eleven consecutive years. The Group will keep working to contribute to reduce negative environmental impact by expanding environmental contribution through its business activities.

Environmental Contribution Accounting Methodologies

At the OMRON Group, the degree of environmental contribution is accounted from direct effects of the products themselves, and indirect effects through the use of products or services.

Direct effects

Reduction in CO2 emissions by improved energy-saving performance of an OMRON product compared to a reference product.

  • * Calculation formula
Energy-saving effect (W/units) × Operation time (hours/year) × Average number of years in use × CO2 emission factor × Number of units sold in a year
The CO2 emission factor used for the calculation is 0.392kg-CO2/kWh. The calculation formula is for products’ utility power.
  • * Examples of applicable products
Energy-saving nebulizers, safety sensors, industrial temperature controllers, general-purpose power supplies

Indirect effects

Reduction in CO2 emissions achieved by an OMRON product’s contribution to a customer’s energy generation or conservation, through its incorporation as a core component of the customer’s product that saves or generates energy.

  • * Calculation formula
Environmental contribution by a customer's product in a year (kWh/Unit of year) × Average number of years in use × Degree of contribution × CO2 emission factor × Number of units sold in a year
The CO2 emission factor used for the calculation is 0.392kg-CO2/kWh.
The calculation formula is for products’ utility power.
  • * Examples of applicable products
PV inverters, road traffic control systems, electricity usage monitors, and environmental solutions

The environmental contribution and its accounting methodologies were reviewed by an independent third party.
