The OMRON Group cares about and works on the environment burdens by containers and packaging materials for products, such as individual product boxes, trays, and sticks.
The Group strives to reduce the use of packing materials for transportation by employing a returnable container system and reducing the weight of packing materials. The Group will promote improvement of transport efficiency in order to reduce CO2 emissions at the logistics stage.
The amount of containers and packaging materials globally used was up 30% year on year, due to the one-time increase in product inventory. In Japan, the Group has been acting on the Containers and Packaging Recycling Law. The Group will keep working on resource saving by monitoring the amount of containers and packaging materials used, and standardizing these materials.
As for conservation of resources at the logistics stage, we reduced packaging materials in Japan by 14% compared to fiscal 2018. Overseas, packing materials increased due to temporary inventory buildups resulting from production line transfer and site consolidation. However, our production sites worked to reduce packing materials and plastics used for packing by 10% to 20%. It was realized by expanded use of returnable boxes in Shanghai, China, change of packing methods to reduce cushioning materials in Dalian, China, review of minimum component order lot in Italy in Europe among others. As a result, we were able to limit the increase of packing materials to 54%.
Going forward, the OMRON Group will continuously seek to reduce its usage of transport packing materials by revising the packing method, promoting reuse of packing materials and the use of lighter packing materials, and reducing the use of auxiliary packing materials.
