Partnering with suppliers to promote sustainability in supply chains
Green Procurement
In accordance with the OMRON Principles, we at the OMRON Group strive to help create a sustainable society throughout the world by taking dual approaches. One is to supply products and services that contribute positively to the global environment, and the other is to maximize effective use of all management resources. In material procurement, we are committed to promoting green procurement, while reducing disposal of plastic molding materials.
In our green procurement efforts, we are working to proactively adopt materials that do not contain hazardous chemical substances and contribute to reducing environmental impact.
Specifically, we specified ecology (reduction of environmental impact) and compliance (observance of laws, regulations, and social norms) as key programs that should be promoted across our supply chain. As such, we certify green suppliers from two perspectives: establishment of an EMS, environmental management system; establishment of a CMS, management system for chemical substances contained in products.
At present, we award or renew certification to suppliers who meet our green supplier certification criteria revised in 2014. During fiscal 2021, we certified additional 100 companies, reaching a cumulative 3,126. In fiscal 2022, we plan to conduct evaluations of those yet to be certified.
OMRON manages chemical substances contained in its products in accordance with IEC62474, an international standard for the electrical and electronics industry, while also taking into account OMRON's own initiatives. We will continue to monitor product environment laws and regulations and update our system for managing chemical substances contained in products. Specifically, we conduct reviews to reflect updates of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in the REACH regulation twice a year. We also consider the trends in other laws and regulations and revise our management rankings for chemical substances contained in products to ensure thorough compliance with product environmental regulations. As a result of this thorough monitoring and control system, there were no significant violations in fiscal 2022.

Banned to use in products, parts or materials | Substances whose content is already banned by laws and regulations, or substances/applications designated as banned to use by OMRON originally. |
Phase-out substances/applications (A1 rank) |
To be substituted before the deadline for the phase-out in parts and materials. Banned to use after the deadline for the phase-out in parts and materials. |
Substances whose ban for use in the future has already been finalized, or substances/applications designated as non-use by OMRON originally (deadline for the non-use is specified by OMRON) |
Content management substances/applications (B rank) |
Grasping of contained amount of regulated substances and promotion of alternative substances | Among the substances/applications designated by IEC62474, those for which grasping of the contained amount/ratio and consumption are required by laws and regulations, or those for which content indication or information provision of the safeness, etc. is required by laws and regulations if they are contained. |
Voluntary control substances/applications (C rank) |
Understanding of the contained amount | Among the substances/applications designated by IEC62474 those that are other than banned substances/applications (A rank),phase-out substances/applications (A1 rank), and content management substances/applications (B rank). |
