Green Procurement

Our Stance

Engagement Approach

In accordance with the OMRON Principles, we at the OMRON Group strive to help create a sustainable society throughout the world by taking dual approaches. One is to supply products and services that contribute positively to the global environment, and the other is to maximize effective use of all management resources. In material procurement, we are committed to promoting green procurement, while reducing disposal of plastic molding materials.

In our green procurement efforts, we are working to proactively adopt materials that do not contain hazardous chemical substances and contribute to reducing environmental impact.

Specifically, we specified ecology (reduction of environmental impact) and compliance (observance of laws, regulations, and social norms) as key programs that should be promoted across our supply chain. As such, we certify green suppliers from two perspectives: establishment of an EMS, environmental management system; establishment of a CMS, management system for chemical substances contained in products.

Initiatives

At present, we award or renew certification to suppliers who meet the criteria for green supplier certification revised in 2014. During fiscal 2022, we certified 62 more companies, reaching a cumulative 3,188. We plan to evaluate uncertified suppliers during fiscal 2023.

Reduction of Hazardous Chemicals

OMRON manages chemical substances contained in its products in accordance with IEC62474, an international standard for the electrical and electronics industry, while also taking into account OMRON's own initiatives. We will continue to monitor product environment laws and regulations and update our system for managing chemical substances contained in products. Specifically, we conduct reviews to reflect updates of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in the REACH regulation twice a year. We also consider the trends in other laws and regulations and revise our management rankings for chemical substances contained in products to ensure thorough compliance with product environmental regulations. As a result of this thorough monitoring and control system, there were no significant violations in fiscal 2023.
In fiscal 2024, we monitor contents of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in parts and products for responding to the trend toward PFRS regulations in the U.S. and Europe.
